About our 1967 Unimog 406 Soft Top - SOLD

The following are answers to e-mail questions we have received that may be of interest to prospective buyers:

1. What is the exact vehicle model?
Unimog 406 (as stated in the Fahrzeugbrief)

2.It seems like there are a lot of kilometers on the vehicle. How long will it be road worthy?
Actually, 135,000 kilometers is not a lot for the OM 352 motor. The motor has a life of about 350,00 kilometers and up to 10,000 hours before it will need an overhaul. This Unimog is in excellent condition. One of the reasons we bought it is that it is absolutely rust free. It has been repainted inside and out. It has a front PTO with a newly-restored Werner winch. It also has a 3-way tipper bed with a new cylinder. Another big feature is that it has the 20-speed transmission. Many Mog enthusiasts prefer them. The gears all have good synchronization.

3. With the 20-speed transmission, does the vehicle go faster? What is its top speed?
A 20-speed 406 does not go any faster than say a 6-speed 406. Essentially what you get are the creeper and crawler gears, which are good for off-roading, or running attached implements. Top speed on most 406's is about 48-50 mph. If you put on larger tires and turn up the injection pump, you can get up to 58-60 mph. Unimogs are not known for blazing speed. The diesel motors are heavy, but they give you great torque. Top speed on this 406 (which has been slightly modified) is about 53 miles per hour.

4. How is the inside of the vehicle?
The inside of the vehicle has been totally detailed - painted, newly re upholstered seats, new factory Mercedes Benz shifter boots. And a new soft top.

5. Does the soft top leak in the rain?
The soft top has been treated and is totally waterproof. It is new and fits very snug. It does not flap in the wind and is quiet. It can also be folded back Cabrio style.

6. Does the rear bed tip?
Yes. The bed sits on the standard Unimog spider platform and has a tipper cylinder.
