When we picked up the vehicle... a nice running Unimog with very unique features. A one-of-a-kind turbo, but in definite need of some TLC. |
The mog was a prize winner at truck trial events, but the mud and sand were embedded in every part of the vehicle. |
The refurbishment process began by cleaning the vehicle and stripping it down -- removing the old bed sides and the wood in the bed. |
The front panel was cut down to improve visibility. Rust was repaired and it was primered and painted. A new wood floor was bolted to the frame. |
New tail lights, trailer hitch and the two side storage boxes were repaired, painted and re-mounted. |
Spare tire was mounted in the rear bed (next to the additional oil cooler). |
New bed sides and the rear fenders were repaired, painted and re-mounted. Lots of new paint -- frame, wheels, etc. |
On to the cab. Everything removed -- doors, seats -- cleaned and then repainted, new floor mats cut. Front fenders repaired, and repainted. |
Shifter boot cleaned and repaired. Diff. lock switch installed to activate front differential locks separately. |
Dash cleaned. Non-working instruments repaired. |
Seats installed (cleaned and seat bases painted). |
New soft top installed. |
Doors and window frames were repaired and re-installed. |
Hood was repaired and repainted with a gloss paint to match the body. |
