About our 1977 Unimog 406 with 3 Pt Hitch - SOLD

The following are answers to e-mail questions we have received that may be of interest to prospective buyers:

1. What is the exact vehicle model?
Unimog 406.

2. How old is the vehicle? What is the first date of registration?
The vehicle is more than 25 years old and is therefore DOT and EPA exempt in the US, which makes it fairly easy to import and register. The first date of registration was 13 June 1977.

3. What is the general mechanical condition of the vehicle.
Very good! This vehicle was well maintained, first by the city of Lampertheim and then when in private use since 1990. It has a 20-speed transmission. All gears work and have good synchronization. It has a factory exchange motor in it with 900 hours on it. It has good oil pressure. Good brakes. Differential locks work well. Hydraulics and PTO are all in good working order. Complete new exhaust system installed 6 months ago.

4. What is the condition of the vehicle interior?
The interior has been completely detailed - new door panels, handle inserts, floor mats. The shifter boots are in good shape. It has a nice Isringhausen hydraulic driver's seat. The passenger seat was reupholstered (original MB). The cab is in good condition. The vehicle was completely repainted three years ago.

5. What is the longest distance you have driven the Unimog?
We bought it in the Schwarzwald just before Christmas. We have put about 200 kilometers on it. It drives very well.

6. What is its top speed? Can it be made to go faster?
We clocked it at a top speed of 80 km/h. We plan to turn up the injection pump, which will give it an extra 5 km/h. Larger tires could be installed - 14.5 x 20 - which could help boost the top speed as well.

7. Is the 3-pt hitch hydraulic or manual?
It is a hydraulic power lift (Kraftheber) with a 3-pt hitch. We also have the original implement bar (Ackerschiene) that attaches horizontally to the two hydraulic arms. It could put installed in place of the spragg. It is an agricultural towing bar.

8. Does the rear bed tip?
Yes. The vehicle has a tipper cylinder in it. It is a 3-way tipper bed.

9. What is the condition of the winch? What is the spragg used for?
The original MB rear winch, which is relatively rare, is in very good shape. It has a pulling capacity of 5 tons. The spragg is hydraulically lowered into the ground when you use the winch to pull heavy pieces of wood, or something similar (5 tons). It stops the vehicle from being pulled backwards.

10. Can I get a clear title in the US when I buy a Unimog from you?
Yes. After the vehicle has been paid, we send to the buyer - via registered airmail - the original Vehicle Title, a Bill of Sale, a copy of the Sea Waybill, and an Operator's Manual in English. These three documents will be needed to import the vehicle.
